Cherry Hill recently celebrated Arbor Day with an awesome ceremony in front of the school. The Third Grade Students put on an AMAZING performance and we hope everyone enjoyed it! Later that day, the Third Graders continued celebrating Arbor Day with some great activities planned by the Class Parents. Students planted sunflower seeds, ate some yummy snacks, and played some fun relay races. Also during the month of April, the 3-Moran Authors shared their Realistic Fiction stories with family and friends. We hope you enjoyed reading our stories, as much as we enjoyed writing them. Realistic Fiction is definitely one of our favorite genres!
On Tuesday, March 25th, Cherry Hill School celebrated International Day. Students had the chance to "travel" to 5 different countries including Korea, China, India, Greece, and Israel. 3-Moran students enjoyed their International Journey! We thank the Cherry Hill PTO and all of the parent volunteers for this wonderful experience!
3-Moran students continue to work hard in 3rd Grade. We have been very busy!! In Math, students worked in small groups to create squares out of triangles. We visited the Discovery Lab, where students tested which part of a magnet is the strongest. Students were really surprised to find out how many paper clips stuck to different parts of the magnet. Finally, in Reading Workshop, students are enjoying the chance to read and discuss mysteries in their Book Clubs. Great discussions are taking place! We sure LOVE mysteries!!
Recently, our class went on a "Verb Hunt" around Cherry Hill School. The goal of this hunt was for students to record actions that they saw people doing in our school. We found out that Cherry Hill is filled with action, as we saw people listening, drawing, reading, writing, speaking, cleaning, walking, answering, typing, and more! Back in our classroom, during Math, students practiced comparing very big numbers by playing the game, Number Top-It. During another Math lesson, on 3-D Shapes, students had the chance to create their own square pyramids and triangular prisms. Students realized that it took time and patience to create the shapes.
3-Moran students were working hard and having fun during the last few weeks of 2013. In Math, students worked in pairs to draw rectangles and then figure out the area for the rectangles. Students rolled diced to come up with the numbers for the array. Area can be found by multiplying length times width, or by counting the number of square units. We had a lot of fun with this activity! Students also finished creating maps of their own imaginary places. We enjoyed sharing our maps with all of you at 3-Moran Map Mania. Finally, 3-Moran students got to ring in 2014 a little early, with a fabulous New Year's Pajama Party hosted by our Class Parents.
3-Moran Students recently visited the Discovery Lab, where they practiced measuring mass and volume. Students used tools, including graduated cylinders, beakers, and balance scales. Three stations were set up, and students completed experiments for all three stations. They recorded their results, just like Scientists do! 3-Moran students sure LOVE Science!!
Happy Halloween from 3-Moran!! Students had a fun afternoon showing off their costumes in the school parade, and enjoying a "spook-tacular" Halloween celebration organized by the amazing 3-Moran Class Parents!
Last week was a GREAT week for 3-Moran! We enjoyed the Cherry Hill Week of Respect, with all of the theme days, signing a school "No Bullying" pledge banner, and attending a school pep rally to show that we are "Taking a STAND to lend a HAND"! We also took a field trip to the Sterling Hill Mine. One student commented: "This field trip was better than going to Hawaii!!". Needless to stay, the students had an amazing time traveling through the mine, collecting their own rocks, and going on a scavenger hunt in the museum.
3-Moran students have been working hard and having fun at the same time! In Math, students played the Number Grid Difference Game in pairs. This game reinforced using a number grid to find the difference between numbers. In Word Study, we played a matching game on the SmartBoard to review words with short vowels sounds. Students enjoyed playing this game, so I have posted the link for the matching game on the "Links for Students" page.
Here is a sneak peak of our classroom!
